The exactitude of high quality sailplaning instruments depends heavily on the quality of the decompression. Sailplane calculators with hugh quality pressure sondes show wrong results in case of an improper decompression. esa decompressions are standard equipment of many sailplane manufacturers, and not only in Germany.
Multi sondes allow for the inspection and determination of total pressure, static pressure, and TE pressure by means of a boom tube. The determination of total and static pressure is carried out according to Prandtel (Prandtel tube). This provides a high degree of accuracy (speedometer faults lesser than 0,5%) and is approved by the LBA (German National Aviation Authority) for velocity calibrations of new constructions. The sonde is measured in regular intervals by the DR in reference to their trailing sonde.
The accuracy of the static pressure allows for electronic compensation. It is recommendable, though, not to connect further instruments at the same time.
