A personal headset is hygienic and is in between standard equipment for every pilot. Since the Corona pandemic, most flight schools no longer borrow headsets to student pilots.
Which headset is the best for me?
Almost all training aircraft are equipped with classic jacks for microphone and headphones. These jacks fit for headsets with standard PJ connectors. If in doubt, ask your flight school which connector system is used.
We offer on ear and over ear headsets. In most common single-engine piston aircraft a noise level is pertinent. Therefore we recommend over ear headsets. These offer a high passive noise attenuation by the capsule. We also carry headsets with additional active noise cancellation.
With these headsets, a counter signal is generated to the low-frequency noise that still penetrates the ear capsule. As a result, the noise level is significantly lower, radio and intercom are better readable.
Bluetooth connections are useful, for example, to receive warning signals from navigation and traffic apps on tablets.
Active or passive headset?
There are two strategies: Some of the student pilots start with an inexpensive passive headset. A growing number start of student pilot begin with a high-quality active headset in order to benefit from wearing comfort and high noise attenuation already during training. Most pilots end up with an active headset after a few years of experience at the latest. A passive headset purchased for entry-level use is then still suitable for passengers.
You will find many other headsets here in the shop under Pilots equipment in the Headsets section. Give us a call. We will be happy to advise you on your choice of headset.
