The exactitude of high quality sailplaning instruments depends heavily on the quality of the decompression. Sailplane calculators with hugh quality pressure sondes show wrong results in case of an improper decompression. esa decompressions are standard equipment of many sailplane manufacturers, and not only in Germany.

Esa-TEK sondes are available in three variants. Low-vibration nozzles through usage of Cfk tubes.

Within the scope of a diploma thesis with the heading „The Analysis & Development of Total Energy Probes“ at the Technical University of Delft, supervised by the aerodynamics professor Loek Bormans, different sondes have been put to test in the wind tunnel. The main focus of the thesis was the determination of the coefficients and the pitch and angle of sideslip susceptibilities of the sondes. The sondes on offer here all fulfil the requirements at a high rate.

esa TEK-Sonde DN/ST - end fitting 30 mm

Boom tube made of CfK, nickle-plated brass head, anodised aluminium end piece, short end fitting 30 mm, Ø 8 mm. Recommendable for sailplanes with large angle of pitch alterations (standard class, club class). The probe should be arranged horizontally. The version with a short end piece is used on many Schempp-Hirth gliders since 2005. Please check the length for the end fitting before placing an order.

Wir haben auf unserer ASW 20 von einer Düse auf dem Rumpfrücken auf eine esa TEK-Sonde im Heck gewechselt. Die Qualität der Variometeranzeige hat sich erheblich erhöht.
Ich habe die ersten zwei Jahre mit dem Flugzeug \"gefremdelt\", weil ich trotz guten Trainingsstandes die Thermik schlecht traf und nicht wirklich schneller war als mit der ASW 19. Da bei der ASW 20 die Flächen weicher sind, ist eine gute Anzeige des Variometers sogar noch wichtiger als bei ihrem Clubklasse-Pendant.
